After a year of tremendous loss, where the celebration of life at the funeral wasn't aligned with the wishes of the person who had died, I felt like my grieving was missing a component and struggled to figure out how to honor my losses. As an advocate, and as a person going through a lot of grief, I realized that we have given a lot of our power away to religious institutions and may no longer have the empowerment to create our own rituals and feel like they are valid.

But our human existence is valid. And we don't need validity from anyone else. We belong to this earth because we exist. Our creativity is a testament to our power. I want to encourage us all to find ways to validate ourselves, with our rituals, for our significant life events.

That's where I come in.
